If there is a boundary wall, it should be 6 to 8 feet high with a 2.5 ft. barbed wire overhang protruding outwards to prevent anyone from scaling the boundary wall. Height of the boundary wall should be measured from the ground level and therefore need not be uniformly high. The wall should be absolutely smooth from outside so as not to have any rough surfaces or protrusions that can be used to gain foothold on the wall to climb over. It is seent that there are high boundary walls but have ledges and footholds that act as a ladder. The top of the boundary wall should have sharp edged glass splinters all along fixed with cement to prevent scaling by anyone.
If there are trees in the vicinity, parts of which cross over the boundary wall and facilitate intruders jumping into the premises, then it is advisable to prune the tree accordingly. Technology can help in prompt detection of such intrusion. Equipment's like ELECTRIC FENCE ,PHOTO ELECTRIC BEAMS, PHOTOELECTRIC INFRARED BEAMS, PRESSURE SENSORS, ULTRASONIC MOTION DETECTORS can help detect intruders.
Boundary wall and the area between the boundary wall and the building(s) within should be well lit or should have security lights that are automatically switched on when there is any movement in the area.
Keep minimum possible entry & exit points. A single common point of entry & exit is most secure but not necessarily the safest. For emergency like fire etc. there must be alternate exit point. Wild growth should not be allowed along either side of the boundary wall as criminals may use it as a hiding place.
