• Always stick to one taxi service company which has been tried and tested by you or by those who recommended it to you. This ensures a reasonable degree of reliability. • On arrival of the cab, check if it has come from the company from which you requisitioned it. Ask the driver for whom he has been sent to ensure the cab has been sent for you. Avoid asking 'Are you sent by ABC taxi company', instead ask directly 'Which taxi agency have you come from'. • Avoid hailing a cab as far as possible. If you have to hail a taxi, look at the driver first to see if he inspires your confidence. At night some drivers have an associate with them. This is a security measure for them as well as for you but if the people are not right, it puts a lone passenger at a disadvantage and poses a serious threat, specially, to a lone lady passenger. So be very careful in picking a cab by the roadside. • Most metropolitan city airports and railway stations have a system of Pre-paid taxi. This is generally safer (though not foolproof) than hiring cab from a taxi stand. Do not be lured to hire a taxi from outside the queue for pre-paid taxi even if the cabbies offer you a discount. • Note the taxi number and the name of the driver and keep it with you till the journey is over and you have safely reached home with your baggage. • After commencement of the journey, if you do not feel comfortable with the conduct or demeanors of the driver, ask him to stop when you have reached an inhabited or a busy place, terminate the journey and give the pre-paid slip to the driver. There is nothing more valuable than your life. • Satisfy yourself that all your belongings/baggage has been taken off the taxi at your destination before you pay off the cabman. Check the seat for anything that you might have left behind or that might have rolled out of your pocket. Most of the Passports, money bags and Purses are lost by leaving them behind while alighting from a cab. • Request the driver to wait till you have gone into the house. Specially if you are in a lonely area. |
